William and Kate outshine Harry and Meghan in US poll

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have suffered another setback on the world stage, according to YouTube star Kinsey Schofield and royal commentator Rupert Bell. On the latest episode of Heirs and Spares, the pair discussed poll results showing that Americans prefer Prince William and Princess Catherine to the Sussexes.

Royal commentators react to poll results

Bell said on the programme: "I do think America has a soft spot for the British Royal Family. We've seen that – even President Trump is quite clearly enamoured with the impact our Royal Family can have on a global stage. Obviously the modern facing Royal Family is the Prince and Princess of Wales, and obviously since Harry's gone rogue, as it were, basically they are it amongst the younger generation."

He added: "There's a lot of focus on them. There's been all the focus on Catherine since her cancer diagnosis and on William as he tries to navigate through the choppy waters of making sure the Royal Family has relevance."

Authentic royalty vs fake royalty

Bell continued: "I'm not surprised - we just know there is a degree of interest in the Royal Family. Our programme proves it, great swathes of our audience are American, so it actually does prove that in America they want authentic royalty, not fake royalty – the one who are genuinely going about their business on behalf of the British Royal Family, the future king in this case and his wife," he said in a scathing snub to the Sussexes.

Bell added: "Going back to the poll, it shows that William and Catherine do have some credibility on the global scale, and I think that's very important. It's very important for Britain and the soft power. If you're finding that in America polls like this are showing that Prince William and the Princess of Wales have a very favourable rating, then it's good when they will be increasingly going onto the global stage promoting Britain in whichever way."
