A 53-year-old man from Manchester has been sentenced after assaulting a woman in a hotel room in Knutsford. Michael Kelly, of Nasmyth Street, received a suspended sentence for the incident, which police described as "unacceptable behaviour".
Incident at Knutsford hotel
Kelly assaulted the woman in February this year. Police were called to the hotel, on Manchester Road, Knutsford, on Thursday (February 19) shortly before 9pm following reports of a disturbance in one of the rooms and the sound of a woman screaming.
After they arrived, police stopped Kelly as he was walking out of the building. The victim was spoken to in the hotel room and stated Kelly had assaulted her multiple times, including shoving her around the room by her hair. Hotel workers intervened and entered the room to stop the assault.
Evidence and injuries
Police found clumps of the victim's hair on the floor of the room. The woman had also suffered scratches, redness, swelling and bruising as a result of the incident.
Court sentencing
Kelly appeared at Chester Crown Court on Thursday (October 15) and was sentenced to two years, suspended for two years, for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
PC Neilson-Clempner said: "This was a horrible incident, in which clumps of the victim’s hair was found on the floor of the hotel room. She also suffered scratches, redness, swelling and bruising as a result of the incident."
"This is unacceptable behaviour and Kelly has now been held accountable for his actions and sentenced for this offence."
