Welsh baker creates life-size Kate Middleton cake model

Welsh baker Emma Jayne Morris, 56, from Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taf, has created a life-size model of the Princess of Wales entirely from cake. The sculpture, which took two weeks to complete, will be displayed at the Cake International event at Birmingham's NEC from November 6.

A Sweet Tribute to Royalty

Morris, who has previously crafted models of Michael Jackson, Angelina Jolie, and King Charles, built Kate's head from Rice Krispies and marshmallows before shaping her facial features with 2kg of modelling chocolate. The creation uses 50kg of sugar paste and features edible rainbow dust sparkles.

Explaining her choice of subject, Morris said: "I chose Kate because I have loved making the royals over the years. From Tutankhamun, King Charles, and Queen Elizabeth, it's been fascinating learning about the subjects and the lives they lead plus giving the visitors a chance to stand beside historical figures and our royal family."

An Ongoing Work of Love

The model is not yet complete, as Morris plans to recreate the princess' body. "There's a lot of work still to do," she said. Describing her process, she added: "I have loved every minute of making Kate. She is made with modelling chocolate and every part of her is hand-sculpted. I started with building the face and then once that was done I put the colour on her face. I hand-made each part of the headpiece and the earrings as well as the hairstyle."

Morris admitted the build faced challenges: "Because I wanted to get like this likeness her nose came off twice as I wasn't happy with it. I got to the point where I wasn't happy at all so I cut the whole of the front of her face off. So this one has been a particular work of love because I wanted to get it exactly right."

Public Praise

Admirers have congratulated Morris on the lifelike creation. One person said: "Absolutely amazing, what a talent!" Another added: "You've nailed it Em. Just so talented. Congratulations."
