Sussexes Denounce Tom Bower’s ‘Deranged’ Royal Book Claims

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have issued a blistering statement condemning author Tom Bower over claims in his forthcoming book, including an allegation that Queen Camilla said Meghan had “brainwashed” Harry. The couple described Bower’s commentary as having “long crossed the line from criticism into fixation”.

In a statement, the Sussexes said Bower “has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met”. They added: “Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.”

Bower’s book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, also claims the Prince and Princess of Wales viewed Meghan as “a threat” before the Sussexes left the UK. Extracts suggest Harry was “shocked” by the downfall of Prince Andrew and fears King William could strip the Sussexes of their titles.

The book alleges that during a 2018 reconciliation meeting, Meghan told William: “If you don’t mind, get your finger out of my face.” It also claims the Invictus Games were dubbed “the Meghan Games” after the couple’s Netflix deal faltered, with Canadian executives reportedly resenting the Sussexes’ involvement.

Harry has continued his legal battles against the media. In January, he accused Associated Newspapers of wanting to drive him “to drugs and drinking” and of making Meghan’s life “an absolute misery”. Meghan previously criticised the Daily Mail for reporting from her estranged father’s bedside. ANL denies all allegations.
