Royal expert on why Harry and Meghan skip UK interviews

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not taken part in any interviews since returning to the UK, with a royal expert explaining one reason behind the decision. The Sussexes, who left their royal roles in 2020, made their first joint appearance in Nottingham on Thursday, October 15.

Low profile since UK return

The couple have kept a low profile during their first couple of months back in Britain, not appearing together officially until this week. Prince Harry had made multiple appearances alone while Meghan Markle was said to be focusing on helping their two children adjust to the move.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have started school in the UK but were forced to change schools after a security concern.

Focus on charitable and commercial work

On Royal Observer's exclusive show, The Windsor Report, Associate Editor Josh Rom and Contributing Editor Pandora Forsyth discussed the fact that Harry and Markle had reportedly decided not to do sit-down interviews in the UK. The pair are instead choosing to focus on their charitable and commercial endeavours, reports The Royal Observer.

Forsyth said: "They are now back in the UK, and they're well aware of every single move that they make, which I'm sure we'll be addressing shortly, is under a microscope, and they know ultimately they're in the heart of the monarchy."

She added: "They know anything they do is going to be judged, and they know perhaps having a sit-down interview won't go down too well with the British public. So this story was quite interesting."

Previous interview impact

Prince Harry and Meghan infamously gave an interview to Oprah Winfrey in 2021. Harry and Meghan made claims against the Royal Family, offering viewers an insight into what life was like for them inside The Firm.

The pair spoke about a range of issues, making allegations about racism and lack of mental health support to feeling "let down" by the family. The interview contributed to problems between the Sussexes and the wider Royal Family.

Prince Harry is estranged from his brother, Prince William, but Harry did meet with his father, King Charles, in July.
