Queen Camilla appeared in high spirits during her first day of engagements in the Caribbean, laughing off a sudden downpour that left King Charles without an umbrella. The heavens opened just minutes after the monarch and his wife arrived at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua for the 45th annual Independence Parade.
While panicked staff rushed to usher the Queen into a covered seating area with a clear umbrella, the drenched King was left exposed to the deluge. Charles was seen frantically asking his staff, "Where's my umbrella?" as Camilla watched from the stands.
Queen's lighthearted reaction
In a video that amused royal watchers, Camilla could not stop laughing as she took shelter from the torrential rain. Gesturing to her damp dress and frizzy hair, she jokingly declared: "I've given up."
Meanwhile, a frustrated Charles was eventually handed a small black umbrella by his equerry, Major Ben Rigby. According to lip reader Nicola Hickling, the soaked Sovereign tersely muttered an eight-word remark: "Perhaps one should keep a spare on hand."
King's playful quip
Despite the soggy start, Charles did not let the blunder dampen his spirits for long. After inspecting the Guard of Honour as it continued to rain heavily, the King playfully quipped to the Prime Minister: "I've started growing watercress on my trousers."
