Princess Anne's witty response to Sir Kevin Sinfield about running has highlighted how different she is from Princess Catherine. At a recent engagement, Sir Kevin, who was taking part in an endurance event to raise money for motor neurone disease charities, invited Anne to join him in the challenge.
Anne's Quick Refusal
Sir Kevin's challenge, dubbed "7 in 7: The Grand Finale," involved completing an ultra-marathon every day for seven days. When he jokingly invited Anne to join, she quipped: "No thank you! I will stick to horses."
Anne's quick refusal may not come as a surprise, as the 76-year-old has never been known to love running. Instead, she has always been passionate about horse-riding.
Kate's Love for Running
Meanwhile, Princess Catherine, another key female royal, loves running, making her very different from Anne, her husband's aunt. Her love for running has been spoken about before, especially by Mike Tindall, Anne's son-in-law and Prince William's cousin-in-law.
During an appearance on the House of Rugby podcast in 2021, Mike Tindall revealed that Catherine could "run all day." He said: "I've got the Duchess of Cambridge on one wing because she loves running, she can run all day. Engine!"
He also said that Prince William is a "quick" runner with "really fast leg speed." It is not known if William and Catherine, who have been married since 2011, ever have time to run together.
Security Concerns and Other Exercises
While Catherine loves to run and is very sporty, it is believed that the future queen will never run a marathon, reportedly due to security risks. The Princess once told journalist Bryony Gordon that she could not do the London Marathon because of "security and all that."
As well as running, Catherine also enjoys other forms of exercise, including walking and cold-water swimming. This was revealed when she appeared on Mike Tindall's sports podcast, The Good, The Bad and The Rugby. She said: "I love swimming wherever I can. Cold swimming – the colder, the better. I absolutely love it. Slightly to the point where William's [saying], 'You're crazy' and it's dark and it's raining'. I will go and seek out cold water."
