Prince William intervened after Prince George gave a blunt "No" when asked if he wanted to see his parents ride a tandem bike in the velodrome. The question came from TV presenter Gethin Jones during the family's visit to Wales House, the central Team Wales hub at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
William then joked: "We embarrass you enough as it is."
What happened at Wales House
Princess Catherine earlier revealed that five-time Olympic gold-medal cyclist Dame Laura Kenny had tried to persuade her and William to try track cycling. She said: "Be careful what you wish for, as they want to put us on a tandem bike in the velodrome."
Jones then asked the royal children: "Would you like to see mum and dad on a tandem in the velodrome later?" Prince George was the only one to reply, with a blunt "No."
A day of sport in Glasgow
The family watched Jamaica beat Australia in the netball semi-finals at The Hydro, before visiting the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, where they met Sir Chris Hoy and Dame Laura Kenny. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were also in attendance.
The outing was seen as significant as Prince Louis was considered old enough to join the family day out. The family met tournament mascot Finnie the Unicorn, and Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis helped update the live medal tally.
Judo finals at the Scottish Event Campus rounded off the sporting action.
Meeting the gymnasts
At Wales House, the family met twin Welsh gymnasts Abigail and Emily Roper, both bronze medallists at the Games. Princess Catherine drew Louis into the conversation, telling him: "Louis, you're perfecting your handstand at the moment." With his arms crossed, Louis replied: "A bit. But Charlotte says I'm not very good."
Charity visit
After Wales House, the family visited youth charity SportsAid, of which Princess Catherine is a patron. They also greeted volunteers and competitors outside The Hydro.
