Prince Harry will bounce back, royal photographer predicts

Prince Harry will “bounce back” from negative public opinions about him, according to royal photographer Arthur Edwards, who has known the duke for decades. Edwards, who has photographed the royals for The Sun since the 1970s, said he is glad Harry is back in Britain.

Photographer Welcomes Harry's Return

Edwards, whose upcoming memoir is titled ‘Cup of Tea, Arthur? My Extraordinary 50 Years Photographing the Royal Family’, said he hopes Harry “gets involved”. Speaking about Harry’s return to The Telegraph, Edwards revealed: “I’m glad he’s back, and I hope he gets involved. He was a great star.”

He continued: “He might not be the knight in shining armour at the moment, but knowing him, he’ll bounce back. People have got short memories.”

Fond Memories of the Young Prince

Despite not liking Harry’s actions since 2020, Edwards has fond memories of the duke as he was growing up. He said the duke “used to love” being photographed when he was young, and that the young prince would “poke his tongue out at you” as pictures were taken.

Edwards also noted that Prince William, Harry’s estranged older brother, was less keen on the media as a young boy.

Harry's Return and Royal Status

Harry’s return to the UK has not changed his status as a non-working royal. It is not clear whether he will continue his charity work as a private citizen, which he has been doing over the last few months, or return to the royal fold. The latter option is considered unlikely to happen anytime soon, with King Charles making it clear months ago that Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, do not represent the Royal Family.

In a letter sent on the monarch’s behalf to government departments after Harry’s move back to Britain, the King referred to the couple as being “private citizens”. He also made it clear their position as non-working royals has not changed.

Harry's Recent Interview

While Edwards may think Harry will “bounce back”, others are less sure, as the duke seems to keep making moves that displease his royal relatives. This includes an interview he did last week with GQ, in which Harry spoke about his relationship with his father and brother.

Harry, who has been warned by various experts not to keep talking about the Royal Family, admitted that he grieved the relationship he once had with them. He said, when asked whether he grieves the relationship he once had with William and his father: “Yes, of course.

“I think from a family perspective, again, another massively relatable issue for so many people: sibling disagreements, broken relationships between kids and their parents, kids and one parent. That continues to come up with me the whole time with people that I speak to, so I know how relatable it is. People may look at us and go, ‘How are you gonna work it out? Maybe that will help me work my stuff out.’ Some people don't want it to work out. I want it to work out. With everything else that's going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile—that's the key point. [...] Scars stick around forever.

“But what your perception is, and what your mindset is, is to let go of the things that have happened in the past. That's something that I would encourage everybody to do: If there are certain things from the past that are still affecting you every day, that's harder to let go of. But, for me, there's enough drama in the world and enough drama in people's lives to continue with issues with family.”
