Princess Kate admits knitting failure for Prince George

The Princess of Wales has admitted she failed to knit a "very special jumper" for her eldest son, Prince George, revealing that knitting is a craft she has never mastered.

During a visit to Glasgow in 2013, while pregnant with her first child, Catherine confessed she had been trying to learn to knit to make handmade clothes for the young royal. She said: "I've been trying to knit, and I'm really bad. I should be asking for tips!"

A Craft That Never Quite Stuck

In early 2020, the Princess shared another knitting mishap during a visit to Bradford, according to Hello! Magazine. Speaking at the Older Yet Wiser organisation, she said: "I tried knitting when I first had George. I tried to knit him a very special jumper, but I got halfway down, and it splattered. It's such an amazing skill."

More than a decade after welcoming George, Catherine has watched her eldest child grow increasingly independent. The young royal now attends Eton College, where he lives during term time, and the Princess is reportedly missing him as he settles into boarding school life.

A Heartwarming Admission

Catherine's comments came during a surprise visit to a charity shop in Hoveton, near Norwich, run by East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH), of which she is a patron.

While chatting with local residents in the shop's café area, the future Queen spoke warmly about George's anticipated return home for half-term, which was due to begin on Monday, October 26. Friends Denise Ashton, 68, and Essie Landsborough, 75, were in the café when the Princess approached them. Ms Ashton recalled: "She said she's looking forward to George coming home – she's missed him."

The week-long half-term break was set to give the Wales family a chance to reunite and spend time together away from their busy schedules.
