Princess Catherine may be the Firm's secret weapon, but Meghan Markle holds the key to unlocking the door to reconciliation between Prince William and Prince Harry, according to a new opinion piece.
Writing for the Daily Express, Alicia Liberty argues that while the brothers may hold grudges, the women standing beside them could hold the power to end the bitter feud that has turned a family fallout into a royal circus.
The Women Could Hold the Key
Prince Harry, 42, has again declared his desire to repair his fractured family relationships, telling GQ magazine that reconciliation is what matters most. But Liberty finds it "incredibly sad" that the Duke appears more comfortable discussing family peace in interviews than demonstrating how he intends to achieve it behind closed doors.
Princess Catherine, 44, has conducted herself with remarkable composure throughout years of relentless royal drama, continuing to fulfil her duties while navigating enormous personal challenges. Before the Sussex fallout, she enjoyed a warm and playful relationship with her brother-in-law Harry, making their estrangement particularly heartbreaking.
Meghan Must Make the First Move
Liberty believes Meghan needs to take a long, hard look at the situation. For years, the Sussexes have aired their grievances to the world, from their bombshell Oprah interview to Harry's memoir, Spare. While they are entitled to tell their story, they cannot expect those on the receiving end to simply forget what was said.
If the Duchess, 44, genuinely wants to help her husband reconnect with William, Liberty argues she should reach out to Catherine privately, acknowledge the hurt caused by the public fallout and be prepared to apologise for her own part in it. That does not mean accepting responsibility for everything that went wrong, but reconciliation cannot be built on the assumption that everyone else must make amends.
Not Always About the Final Word
This week's state visit was a stark reminder of everything Harry and Meghan are missing, as the Royal Family united at Windsor Castle with the Sussexes nowhere to be seen. On the day his family welcomed the Sultan of Oman, Harry's latest GQ interview landed, dragging the bitter royal feud back into the headlines.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will never steal William and Catherine's spotlight, but they seriously need to stop stealing their headlines. At some point, the Duke and Duchess must decide what matters more: having the final word or finally making peace.
