Prince Harry has faced sharp criticism on TalkTV after reportedly taking too long to accept an offer from King Charles to stay at Buckingham Palace during his visit to the UK. The Duke of Sussex, 41, arrived in the UK on Monday, July 6, and had initially been expected to reside at the palace. However, due to his delayed response, the invitation was rescinded.
Royal Commentator Reveals Deadline and Reversal
Speaking to TalkTV host Mark Dolan, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield disclosed that the offer had been available for months, with Harry given ample time to confirm his plans, which had been in the works since January. Schofield stated: "Friday was the deadline. Harry rejects the offer on Saturday, then changes his mind. Harry goes back over the weekend and says he's changed his mind. But the Palace says no. They need days, if not weeks to plan for this."
Logistical Challenges Cited for Withdrawal
Schofield explained that Buckingham Palace is not a "lived-in space" and would require significant preparation, including hiring a chef, stocking food and beverages, and arranging staff to cater to Harry and his family. The palace had been expecting Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet to accompany Harry, along with their entourage. "Then Harry's calling and saying, 'Sorry, it's just going to be me.' What a waste of resources!" Schofield added.
Dolan Describes Harry as 'Entitled, Arrogant, and Out of Touch'
Mark Dolan agreed with the assessment, noting that additional security personnel would have been required, reflecting what he described as Harry's attitude of being "entitled, arrogant, and out of touch." Schofield suggested that Harry believes King Charles can resolve his problems "at the snap of a finger," but argued that the King is now putting his foot down regarding his youngest son.
King Charles' Stance on Special Treatment
Schofield emphasized that King Charles has consistently shown a desire to be reasonable and fair, but is unwilling to make special arrangements for Harry, particularly concerning security. "It's unconstitutional," she said. "He's not going to make sure that you win. It was actually King Charles that advised him not to sue the Daily Mail and here we are, Harry with egg on his face and King Charles trying to keep his distance because who wants to be drawn into this drama?"
Royal Expert: King Won't Pull Strings for Son
Concluding her analysis, Schofield stated: "His father has proven to be a fair individual that wants things to play out the way that they're supposed to, and he's not going to pull strings for his son." The incident highlights ongoing tensions between Harry and the royal family, with King Charles prioritizing protocol and constitutional norms over familial accommodation.
