The former Duke of York has been spotted driving around the Sandringham estate, looking stony-faced, as he awaits his move to a permanent residence. Andrew was seen in a maroon cable-knit jumper at the wheel of a Range Rover, accompanied by a security guard in the passenger seat.
He has been staying at Wood Farm in Wolferton since the beginning of February while renovations are carried out at nearby Marsh Farm, which is set to become his new home. The sighting comes after King Charles ordered the removal of the last of Andrew's belongings from Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Royal aides have spent recent days clearing the 30-room mansion, including staff quarters where Andrew was attended to around the clock. Skips have been filled and removed, and a source said: “Andrew was told everything has to be out and absolutely nothing was to be left behind. He hasn’t been back to collect anything.” The source added that no trace of the former occupants or staff should remain by the weekend.
Palace sources insisted that burning furniture and other items on the estate belonged to Andrew's former staff. Aerial photographs showed skips near the rear and front of the residence, and a former valet was seen burning belongings on the grounds.
Andrew's departure from Royal Lodge, along with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, marks his dramatic fall from grace. The King has removed his round-the-clock security and personal allowance. After being stripped of titles and honours in October, he was driven from Windsor on February 2, under cover of darkness.
Less than three weeks later, Andrew was arrested on his 66th birthday on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He spent 11 hours in police custody before being released, with Thames Valley Police confirming he remains under investigation.
