The Duchess of Sussex is likely feeling delighted after her beloved rescue dog received recognition on social media. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry adopted their beagle Mamma Mia in 2022 with the help of The Beagle Freedom Project (BFP).
The royal couple reportedly fell in love with her and wanted to rescue her when they learned the Envigo breeding facility, where Mamma Mia was kept, was closing down. With BFP's assistance, they brought her into their Montecito home.
Social media tribute
Mamma Mia's story has now been shared online by BFP. The organisation posted clips of the beagle, saying: "This is Mamma Mia. She was rescued from the animal testing industry when the Envigo breeding facility was shut down in 2022."
"Not only is she resilient, but now she's royal. Her incredible rescue story captured the hearts of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Meghan personally called BFP's founder and president Shannon Keith, expressing interest in adopting Mamma Mia."
"Soon after that, Megan and Prince Harry were playing with Mamma Mia and her pups in the backyard of the BFP headquarters, and four years later, Mamma Mia is wearing a silver party hat and being silly with her loving forever family celebrating her mom's birthday, and they lived happily ever after."
Happy life in Montecito
When adopted, Mamma Mia joined Harry and Meghan's other dogs, Guy and Pula. Guy sadly passed away last year. Mamma Mia appears content living with the couple, often featuring on Meghan's Instagram account.
Her latest appearance was last week when the duchess shared a video of her putting a party hat on Mamma Mia to celebrate her 45th birthday. Meghan is a clear fan of the beagle breed, having adopted her late dog Guy in 2015 from a kill shelter in Kentucky.
