Meghan Markle reportedly has a number of TV offers in the UK as she prepares to relocate with her family, according to royal commentator Bronte Coy. The Duchess of Sussex is expected to move to a non-royal residence outside London this month, with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet already enrolled in British schools.
Return to acting speculation
The news has sparked speculation about Meghan returning to acting, with the former Suits star rumoured to appear in the third series of Guy Ritchie's Netflix show The Gentlemen. However, Ms Coy told Sky News that this is just one of several options being considered.
Ms Coy said: "It's still in the discussion phase. Contracts haven't been signed, and it's a little way off. We will possibly see her in The Gentlemen, but something else I'm hearing is that with her return to acting and her signalling her interest in it, there actually are a number of offers that they are seriously considering."
Background and family context
Before her relationship with Prince Harry, Meghan rose to fame as Rachel Zane in the US legal drama Suits and appeared in films such as Horrible Bosses, A Lot Like Love and Random Encounters. She is also set to make a cameo as herself in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends, marking her first on-screen appearance in nearly a decade.
The duke and duchess have not commented on their reasons for moving back to the UK. The news broke weeks after they reunited their grandchildren with King Charles for the first time in four years, though they are not thought to have raised the prospect of a return at that meeting.
Security and financial questions
Questions have been raised over the Sussexes' finances ahead of the relocation, as decisions about whether taxpayers will fund their security remain unanswered. Harry has faced a protracted legal battle with the Home Office over security for his family since his level of protection changed when he stepped down as a working royal in 2020.
At the end of June, he was still waiting for a review by the Risk Management Board, part of the process by which the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) rules on his security requirements. Individual decisions on protective security for key public figures, including members of the royal family, are made by RAVEC, which includes the Home Office, Metropolitan Police and Royal Household, and advises an independent chairperson.
