Meghan Markle Could Become Princess Harry of Wales, Arbiter Says
Meghan Markle Could Become Princess Harry of Wales

Meghan Markle could be known as Princess Harry of Wales if the Sussex titles were removed, according to former Buckingham Palace press secretary Dickie Arbiter.

The 45-year-old has held the title of Duchess of Sussex since her wedding day in 2018, with Harry known as the Duke of Sussex. Despite no longer being working royals and not using their HRH titles, the couple have retained their Sussex titles. Meghan even shared during one episode of the second series of With Love, Meghan that she does not go by Markle anymore, appearing to correct the show's guest and her friend Mindy Kaling that she goes by Sussex.

Why Meghan Could Be Princess Harry of Wales

Speaking on the latest episode of Royals Unscripted, royal editor Emily Ferguson spoke to Dickie Arbiter about the royal titles. Arbiter revealed that Meghan could be known as Princess Harry of Wales.

He told Emily: "As far as taking titles away from Harry and Meghan, well, you can't really take the title prince away because he hasn't done anything wrong. He's just rubbed the family the wrong way, and that's a private matter. He was born a prince, and he'll die a prince. If you take the dukedom away, then where does that leave Meghan? That makes Meghan, in practice, Princess Harry of Wales."

Discussions About Stripping Titles

Following their visit to Nigeria in 2024, King Charles and Prince William reportedly held lengthy discussions about stripping Meghan and Harry of their royal titles. Royal expert Tom Quinn, author of Scandals of the Royal Palaces: An Intimate Memoir of Royals Behaving Badly, previously spoke about the King's reaction to the visit with The Mirror.

"All the signs were there, as the couple were greeted with dances, receptions, visits to schools and charities," Quinn told the publication at the time. "William is absolutely furious and determined to find a way to stop this happening in [the] future. Charles is said to be angrier than anyone has ever seen him."

The author also added that Charles and William "have had lengthy discussions about stripping Meghan and Harry of their royal titles, but they are terrified this would backfire and make the situation worse." The couple have, however, remained the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Recent UK Visit

The couple returned to the UK at the end of August, after six years of living in the US. They stepped down from royal duties in early 2020 and moved to America shortly after with their young son, Prince Archie.

Meghan and Harry were reportedly "genuinely thrilled" with how well their visit to Nottingham turned out earlier this month. As the couple made their way to their first visit of the day, the city's Community Recording Studio (CRS), between 150 and 200 people arrived to warmly welcome them. The local community charity offers various youth development programmes.

The couple then moved into their second visit: the Himmah Hub, a community action group addressing food poverty in Nottingham. The couple finally made their way to Epic Partners in Nottingham, their last stop of the day. The couple are now thought to be living somewhere in the Cotswolds with their children, Archie, now aged seven, and Princess Lilibet, five.
