The Duchess of Sussex released a new photograph of herself to promote her lifestyle brand, As Ever's new collection, but royal fans have accused her of “cosplaying” Princess Diana.
Meghan Markle launched her second Holiday Collection this week. After unveiling her £112 luxury advent calendar last week, Meghan has added a wicker Pantry Basket (£195), a Parlour Basket (£182), and a Hostess Basket (£159) to her limited-edition products. Each one has a different assortment of As Ever staples, with the most expensive one, the Pantry Basket, containing a set of three jams, two jars of honey, flower sprinkles, three herbal teas, a hot toddy mulling spice kit and a spiced cider version. Other items for sale include a Treasures of the Orchard chocolate-covered fruit gift box for £56.
Photo sparks debate
In a new picture on social media, Meghan can be seen leaning against a kitchen counter, with one hand resting on her chin and mouth as she playfully looks to one side. She’s wearing a black turtleneck with black smart trousers and black shoes. She captioned the photo: “The Holiday Collection: Chapter One is now open. Discover our first arrivals of the season, with thoughtful gifts and new favourites for everyone on your list.”
A second picture showed what appeared to be the duchess’s hands spreading jam on some tarts. Some fans were quick to point out that Meghan’s outfit was very similar to that of Princess Diana’s for her photoshoot with British Vogue in 1991.
Fans react
One user said on an X post with the two pictures together: “More Diana Cosplay.” Another one added: “I thought her look was familiar…” A third one exclaimed: “Oh my God!” A fourth one blasted: “She does not have her own personality; she is always copying others.”
