Robson Green filming mistaken for real crime in Alnwick

Residents of the Northumberland market town of Alnwick mistook filming for Robson Green's new BBC crime drama for a real-life murder, prompting calls to local council officials.

The 61-year-old Geordie actor was shooting scenes for "The Northumbria Mysteries" in the town, often voted one of the best places to live in Britain and known for its Garden and Castle, when locals saw "police vehicles" and became concerned.

Police cars spark concern in town centre

"There were a number of police cars seen in the town centre," a source told the Mirror. "Some residents thought it was for a real-life crime. It was funny, it was caused by so much 'police activity' one particular street."

"But it was Robson Green filming his latest series."

Series set across Northumberland

Green, pictured enjoying himself during scenes filmed in nearby Morpeth in August, lives in a cottage near Hexham, about an hour's drive from Alnwick. The actor revealed that filming for the eight-part BBC drama ended two months ago.

The series is set and filmed across Northumberland's coastline and market towns. Green stars as Joe Ruby, a jack-of-all-trades, former convict and washed-up gambler who teams up with DI Rose O'Connell, played by Liz White, described as an "ice-cool, Oxford-educated intellectual."

Cast and production

Green has previously filmed extensively in his home county, including the ITV series "Tales from Northumberland," for which he travelled across the area in 2016 interviewing local people.

Actors Simon Callow, Kevin Whately, Chris Gascoyne and Gurjeet Singh appear in the series, produced by Newcastle-based Lonesome Pine Productions.
