Meghan's family drama doesn't excuse her actions, says columnist
Meghan family drama doesn't excuse her actions

Whatever Thomas Markle did or didn't do, nothing excuses his daughter's behaviour over the last eight years, according to columnist Virginia Blackburn. Writing in an opinion piece, Blackburn acknowledges it must be "beyond ghastly" to know your own father has been accused of child abuse, but insists Meghan Markle's actions toward the Royal Family remain indefensible.

Blackburn recalls that Meghan was welcomed into Britain and the Royal Family "with open arms," but says she repaid this by mocking the late Queen, branding the Royal Family racist, and claiming "all sorts of fatuous trivialities which are palpably untrue," such as not being allowed to wear bright colours.

A Troubling Family Background

The columnist describes Meghan's father as "odious," noting he is accused of dreadful crimes and has spent the last decade selling stories about his daughter. She also points to half-brother Thomas Jnr, who she says appears to have shopped his dad, has been declared bankrupt, held a gun to the head of a previous girlfriend, and has a son who created a cannabis strain called Markle Sparkle to celebrate the Royal wedding.

Blackburn also mentions half-sister Samantha, who wrote a memoir titled The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister and is now attacking her own brother while standing up for the father. She adds that Markle Snr's first wife, Roslyn Loveless, wrote the initial letter in 2019 accusing her ex-husband of paedophilia, was labelled an alcoholic, and is now dead.

Explaining, Not Excusing

Blackburn suggests these people "would not have been out of place on The Jerry Springer Show" and says it explains why Meghan didn't want them at the wedding. She concludes that while this background does not excuse Meghan's behaviour or mean she should be allowed back into the heart of the Royal Family and public life, "it does explain a lot."
