The Princess of Wales has marked Halloween by sharing a previously unseen photograph of a young Prince Louis crouching beside a large pumpkin.
The image, taken by Kate when the now eight-year-old prince was aged just one, shows the toddler inspecting a pumpkin almost as large as himself. A caption on the Prince and Princess of Wales' official Instagram account read: "Happy Halloween! Prince Louis, aged 1, photographed by The Princess of Wales."
A First Public Halloween Post
It is thought to be the first time the family have publicly marked Halloween in this way, with official images usually reserved for major Christian festivals, such as Christmas and Easter.
However, they have been known to celebrate privately each year, and in 2022, Princess Kate was seen trick or treating with George, Charlotte and Louis near the family's former Kensington Palace home. Tamara Ecclestone's husband Jay Rutland shared a photo of the family taking part in the Halloween tradition.
Halloween Shopping Trip Recalled
Back in 2019, the Princess of Wales was spotted browsing the Halloween section of a Sainsbury's supermarket in King's Lynn, Norfolk. Local Kathy Whittaker told The Mirror at the time: "She was with Charlotte and George looking at Halloween outfits but her bodyguard was kind of watching people with phones and telling them no pictures. I managed to get the photo as she was at the self-service check out.
"I didn't see what she actually bought. The lady that told me she was there had children with her and she said Kate was asking her children what they were going to be for Halloween. I think she bought some Halloween bits for her kids but I don't know what."
Sussexes' Halloween Traditions
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are yet to share any new photos for Halloween this year, though they have marked the occasion with their children many times in the past. Last year, the Sussexes wore a matching set of insect-themed outfits for trick or treating, with Meghan dressed up with a vibrant, rainbow butterfly cape, Prince Archie as a little ant, and Princess Lilibet a glowing green firefly. Prince Harry opted out of the fancy dress, opting instead for a casual look in a polo shirt and baseball cap while accompanying his family door-to-door.
October 31 has a special significance for the couple, who in 2016 spent their final night before their relationship was made public at an apocalypse-themed party at Soho House in Toronto.
