Princess Kate has faced intense scrutiny following the editing of her Mother's Day photograph, with speculation spreading online. However, the Princess of Wales has previously spoken about how she copes with public criticism.
A friend said Kate would likely be "upset" by the controversy surrounding what was meant to be an innocent family photograph. The princess is said to be "very sad" that the image caused such an international fiasco.
In an ITV interview in 2011, shortly after her engagement to Prince William, Kate was asked how she deals with negative comments. She responded by emphasising the support of those close to her, saying: "The people around home are very supportive to us and those are the people who really matter to us, our close friends and close family."
She added: "If they feel you are doing the right thing you can only be true to yourself and you sort of have to ignore a lot of what's said, obviously take it on board, but you have to be yourself really and that's how I have stuck by it really."
Kate also described marrying into the Royal Family as "nerve-wracking" but expressed her willingness to learn quickly and work hard. She is reportedly relying on her family for support while recovering from abdominal surgery.
In a 2020 podcast, the princess reflected on her happy childhood and the importance of simple pleasures, such as walking with her children, saying it "strips away all the complications, all the pressures."
