The search for the next James Bond continues, with a new name emerging from the pool of contenders: Jack Lowden, an actor known to gamers for his role in Battlefield 1. As reported by GameSpot, entertainment industry insider Richard Osman has stated that MGM Studios is reportedly considering Lowden for the role of 007.
Lowden, who has appeared in several British productions, is most recognisable to gamers for playing T.E. Lawrence in the Lawrence of Arabia level of Battlefield 1's campaign. His other credits include Apple TV's Slow Horses, where he portrays a bumbling spy, and Netflix's upcoming Pride and Prejudice adaptation. He also has ties to Amazon, MGM's owner, having appeared in The Rings of Power as Sauron in a flashback.
Osman's Claim on the Podcast
Speaking on The Rest is Entertainment podcast, Osman did not identify his source but said Lowden is 'for definite' in the pool of actors being considered for the role. The 36-year-old actor is close in age to Daniel Craig when he was cast at 38, and would be the second Scottish actor to take on the role after Sean Connery debuted in 1962.
Other Contenders and What's Known
Several other actors are also thought to be in contention, including Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jacob Elordi, Theo James, Josh O'Connor, and others. MGM Studios has made no official announcement on a favourite. Patrick Gibson, despite his performance in 007 First Light, is not thought to be in contention.
The new Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, known for Blade Runner 2049 and Dune. Further updates on the casting will be reported as they emerge.
