Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly revelled in headlines all week following the leaked announcement that they, along with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are returning to the UK. Schools have been chosen for the youngsters, and it is more than likely a house in the Cotswolds has been selected, placing the Sussexes in the heart of South-West England's celebrity enclave.
Return Tied to Acting Role and Legal Woes
It is already being reported that the return is tied to a British-based acting role in Guy Ritchie and Netflix's 'The Gentlemen' that Meghan has been offered. It must be a big role to tempt her to return to a country she clearly feels uncomfortable in.
Meanwhile, Harry has just been slapped with a huge legal bill following a disastrous and humiliating High Court defeat. If he needs to make some quick cash, the UK is the best place after reports that he feels the US have tired of him.
Snub to the King
It has been reported that Prince Harry told the security services about his impending return to the UK before he even told the King. Sources claim the royal, 41, informed mandarins about the shock move earlier this month in order for them to prepare security measures. His father only found out on Sunday.
If that is true, it will be a great blow to His Majesty The King. His own son telling bureaucrats - in the hope of them being forced to reinstate his taxpayer-funded Met Police armed protection detail - before telling his own 77-year-old father will wound the monarch deeply.
A Painful Pattern
The move, which must have been some time in the planning, was apparently not even mentioned to Charles and Queen Camilla when the Sussexes all met them at Highgrove on 10th July. Knowing the information will be passed to the King by his staff rather than telling him personally first is plain rude and entitled.
In May last year, Harry was heavily criticised for saying he doesn't know "how much longer my father has," in reference to King Charles having ongoing cancer treatment since 2024, discovered when suffering an enlarged prostate. Last December Charles announced the "good news" that "thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to 'doctors' orders,' my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the new year."
If King Charles thinks Harry's UK return is all about spending more time with him, it appears it may not be the case at all. The snub of missing out on being a working royal who can also rake in commercial opportunities - his dream 'half-in-half-out' Holy Grail - still burns like a fire within him, and he knows he must entreat the King face to face to make that happen. Yes, Harry and Meghan are most certainly back.
