Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been urged to leave the UK for good, with a new poll revealing that many Britons do not want them to stay. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated back to Britain at the end of August with their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five.
The family's move back to the UK, after spending the last six years in America since quitting royal duty, took many by surprise and raised questions about their motives. While it was originally believed the move was influenced by Meghan securing a UK acting job, this is not the case. Instead, Harry hinted in an interview that there were “opportunities” for his family in Britain.
Reasons Behind the Move
Harry also said how important it was for his children to attend a UK school and to see the kind of British upbringing he himself had. The fact he is now physically closer to his royal relatives appears to have been another motivating factor behind the move.
While the family insist they are happy back in Britain, as stressed by Harry and Meghan on a joint visit to Nottingham this month, it seems not everyone in Britain feels the same. Many are still untrusting of the couple and would rather they lived away from the UK.
Poll Results
This was revealed by a poll launched by The Daily Express this week, which found that many would like the couple to move to Australia, where Meghan has secured herself a hosting job on Junior MasterChef Australia. In the poll, which launched on October 30 at 7am, Daily Express readers were asked: “Should Prince Harry and Meghan Markle move to Australia?”
The results were telling: 75% of people voted yes, and 22% voted no. A total of 3% of voters said they don’t know. The poll ended on November 1 at midday.
Reader Reactions
Sharing their opinion, some voters revealed why they think the couple should move to Australia. One person wrote: “Yes, please. Anywhere but here.” Someone else said: “We do not want them here.”
Another person wrote: “They have to live somewhere, and it might as well be a place that is geographically as far away from the UK as possible. Sorry Australia, but you do have far more wide open spaces than here, and they could live in complete privacy.” While many think they should move to Australia, others have claimed this is not a good idea, with some going as far as to say that Australia would not want the couple living there.
It is also important to note that while most voters seem to want them to move to Australia, or at least out of the UK, Harry and Meghan do have a base of fans in Britain and worldwide. This includes fans who frequently praise the couple for their charity work and the awareness they bring to important causes. Some of this support was shown just weeks ago in Nottingham, when they visited several charities together and were greeted by a wave of fans handing them presents and flowers.
