Prince Harry and Meghan Markle feel "optimistic" they can find a way back into royal life in the UK, according to a Windsor watcher. Alison Boshoff, appearing on The Royalist podcast recorded on July 18, said a source told her the Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe the US is "cooling on them" and they now want to be liked in Britain. "That's where they're focusing a kind of charm offensive," she said.
Charm Offensive Underway
Host Tom Sykes suggested Harry and Meghan might seek a minor royal role or official duty in the UK to secure housing and police protection. He called it a "massive gamble" by King Charles due to their "unbelievably unpopular" status in Britain. Sykes asked, "Are we witnessing the undoing of Megxit?" Boshoff replied, "I think it is being unpicked. Whether this actually happens, I don't know... All I can tell you for sure is they want it to happen and they feel optimistic that they are on their way back in some way."
Boshoff highlighted Harry's recent appearance on the Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast as evidence of his effort to appeal to the British public. She said Brits will see more of Harry, Meghan, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, as the Sussexes seek to rebuild trust with the Royal Family.
Changing Attitudes in the US
Citing a purported friend of the prince, Boshoff said Harry realizes he is "not all that welcome in the US anymore." A former member of Team Sussex previously told her Harry would never return to Britain and loved his life in the US, but his position has now "completely changed." Friends also told Boshoff that Meghan "really wants to come back to the UK" and "things seem to be shifting."
According to Boshoff, King Charles's feelings about his son's possible return align with the Sussexes' wishes. When asked if the return was driven by the end of Meghan's Spotify deal and the winding down of Netflix projects, Boshoff suggested the pair would be expected to support themselves if they returned.
Family Reunion at Highgrove
Speculation over the Sussexes' future comes after they were reunited with King Charles at Highgrove House on July 10. Charles welcomed Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, to the private royal residence for the first time since Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Queen Camilla, who has a private home nearby, was also present.
The meeting has been interpreted as a sign of thawing relations between the King and Harry, who were estranged after Harry's criticisms in the Oprah Winfrey interview, Netflix documentary, and autobiography Spare. His rift with Prince William is reportedly ongoing, with the reunion occurring while William played in a charity polo match at Windsor.
