Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly been offered accommodation at a royal residence ahead of their upcoming visit to the United Kingdom next month. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are scheduled to travel from the United States to attend the Invictus Games' One Year to Go event in Birmingham, marking Meghan's first visit to the UK since 2022.
Accommodation Offer Yet to Be Accepted
According to the Daily Mail, the couple has been offered a stay at a royal residence but has not yet responded to the proposal. Previously, Prince Harry turned down offers to stay at Buckingham Palace during his solo visits, citing security concerns and claiming the Palace was not secure enough.
Security Arrangements Under Scrutiny
The exact royal residence offered for this visit remains undisclosed. The couple is expected to bring their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Reports suggesting that King Charles has intervened to privately fund the family's security have been described as inflated by the Mail, which states that the Palace's stance on security matters being decided by the Home Office remains unchanged.
In May 2025, Harry lost a legal bid to reinstate his police protection during UK visits. In a subsequent BBC interview, he stated it was "too dangerous" to bring his family to the UK due to safety uncertainties. In December, it was reported that Harry's security access was under review, but no changes have been publicly announced.
A government spokesperson commented: "The UK Government's protective security system is rigorous and proportionate. It is our longstanding policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals' security."
The Sun reported on Thursday that King Charles has offered to privately fund the Sussexes' security during their stay.
Harry's Concerns About Safety
During the ITV documentary Tabloids On Trial, Harry expressed ongoing fears: "It's still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read and whether it's a knife or acid, whatever it is, and these are things that are of genuine concern for me." He added, "It's one of the reasons why I won't bring my wife back to this country."
Spokespeople for Buckingham Palace and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been contacted for comment.
