Prince Harry has been accused of attempting to manipulate his father to ensure his 24-hour security is reinstated. The Duke of Sussex, 42, lost his taxpayer-funded security when he stepped down as a working royal and relocated to the US with Meghan Markle in 2020.
The couple returned to the UK at the end of August, with Harry's security now under review. They have expressed several concerns about their security since returning, one of which led them to pull their two children out of school after just two days. A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex branded international photographers spotted lurking outside the gates of Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet's school as "extraordinarily reckless".
Commentator Claims Manipulation
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield believes the couple may have leaked details of the repeated security threats themselves in an effort to have their security arrangements reinstated. Speaking to Kevin O'Sullivan on TalkTV, she said: "It's clear to us that the ultimate objective is Harry trying to manipulate Ravec to give him taxpayer funded security. He wants 24-hour taxpayer funded armed guards that shadow him and every member of his family."
Schofield added: "It's attention seeking, but really the ultimate objective is for Harry to manipulate his father, to try to humiliate his father and embarrass his father into stepping in and helping him, and trying to manipulate Ravec, who are determining whether Harry and Megan 24-hour armed guards."
Accusations of Leaking Stories
Earlier in the interview, Schofield accused Harry and Meghan of "playing games", arguing that details about two men allegedly lurking around their children's school would never have become public unless the Sussexes themselves, or someone close to them, had disclosed the information. "The problem is these two play games. And one of the games we know they play is sourcing the media. Harry and Meghan, or someone close to them, gave the story to an American outlet," she claimed.
Schofield continued: "We were talking about some of the details that Newsweek had and how the only way Newsweek could have these details was if someone from Harry and Meghan's camp had given them to them." She added: "They specifically said they were observed by Harry and Meghan's security detail to be working as a team. The couple's security took down the registration plate of the car the pair were using and discovered it was rented. How are we going to have details like this unless they are coming straight from Harry and Meghan themselves?"
Schofield later declared: "Harry and Meghan are driving the bus!" Kevin agreed: "They're headline hunting. They're desperate. They're fame hungry."
