Blossoms surprise fans at Stockport pop-up shop

Stockport band Blossoms surprised fans by appearing at a special pop-up shop in their hometown on Friday, marking the release of their sixth album Songs from the Wedding Cake. The indie rock group, formed in 2013, saw massive queues form as they signed copies of the new record and even played guitar with a young fan.

Pop-up at Castle Yard

The band announced the pop-up at Stockport's Castle Yard, running from Friday to Sunday, offering exclusive merchandise and limited edition copies of the album. When the shop opened on Friday afternoon, fans were surprised to see the band make an appearance. A deluxe version of the album also features live performances from the band's ten-year anniversary shows at Manchester's Deaf Institute.

Career highlights

All of Blossoms' albums have reached the top five in the UK charts, with four reaching number one. Led by Tom Ogden, the band's latest music videos have featured famous faces including Jack O'Connell, Callum Scott-Howells, and Celebrity Traitors star Maya Jama. They are set to perform their latest single on The Graham Norton Show tonight.

Blossoms - also featuring Charlie Salt, Josh Dewhurst, Joe Donovan, and Myles Kellock - played their first show at Manchester's Night & Day cafe in 2013. An early opening slot for James at Castlefield Bowl helped propel them to attention, with their debut self-titled album released in 2016.

Awards and upcoming shows

The band were nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2017 and for British Breakthrough Act at the BRIT Awards the same year. In June 2019, they sold out a homecoming show at Edgeley Park Stadium in less than an hour.

Last weekend, Tom made a surprise appearance during Niall Horan's Co-op Live show, performing Blossoms' hit Charlemagne. Fans called it the 'collab we didn't know we needed' and an 'amazing thing' to experience.

Later this year, Blossoms will play their biggest ever tour, including a homecoming show at Co-op Live on December 11 with special guests The Royston Club. The pop-up at Castle Yard (SK1 1UD) is open until 9pm on Friday, and from 12pm to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
