Harriet Phillips reveals bond with 'open-hearted' Kate

Former NHS nurse Harriet Phillips, who married the King's nephew Peter Phillips in June, has revealed in her first interview since joining the Royal Family that she can always turn to the 'open-hearted' Princess of Wales for advice and guidance.

The 46-year-old mother-of-one was welcomed into the family fold after her church wedding earlier this summer, with Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate among the guests. She has also joined the royals at their traditional Easter Sunday church service at Windsor and took part in the Royal Ascot carriage procession.

First Charity Patronage

Harriet has taken up her first-ever charity patronage with Home-Start Cotswolds, a charity supporting parents and young children across the community.

In her first interview since tying the knot, Harriet told how she first met her husband's cousin William, his wife Kate and their three children on a holiday in the Isles of Scilly, describing it as a 'casual meeting' but with a "clear level of respect".

Advice from the Princess of Wales

Speaking about Kate, she told Hello!: "I can look to Catherine for advice and guidance. She's very open-hearted, and I would always feel comfortable asking her if I needed advice about something."

Recalling meeting her mother-in-law, Princess Anne, she added: "It was really relaxed; we sat on garden benches having cups of tea. It couldn't have been nicer and was very similar to when Peter met my family."

Wedding Details and Family Life

Peter Phillips, the late Queen's eldest grandchild and the only son of Anne, is 48 years old and 20th in line to the throne. He was previously married to Autumn Kelly, with whom he has two daughters, Isla and Savannah. He also dated long-term partner Lindsay Wallace before they split in 2024, and later found love with Harriet, who has a teenage daughter called Georgia.

At the couple's wedding in June, the bride wore a high-necked lace gown by Emilia Wickstead and completed the look with the Pragnell family tiara and satin shoes from Jimmy Choo. The couple now live on Anne's Gatcombe Park estate, where their neighbours include her new sister-in-law Zara Tindall, her husband Mike and their three children.

Reflecting on her wedding, which was attended by all of the senior royals, she said: "It's emotional looking back at it. When you're in it, it feels like you're in a dream, and when you look back, you think: 'Was that really me?' It was a slice of heaven."

How They Met

Harriet also opened up about how she and Peter first met, revealing it was on the sidelines of a hockey pitch as they watched their daughters play, not long after her father had died.

She added: "Peter was the brave one in recognising that there was something between us and acting on it. He is very romantic, loving, kind, loyal, amazing and my best friend."
