Harriet Phillips on 'magical' marriage to Peter Phillips

Harriet Phillips has given her first interview as a new member of the Royal Family, describing her marriage to Princess Anne's son, Peter Phillips, as "magical" and sharing the heartwarming story of how they fell in love.

The 46-year-old former NHS nurse officially joined the Firm on June 6 this year, marrying the King's nephew in a Cotswolds ceremony attended by senior royals including King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Nearly five months after their wedding, Harriet has spoken out for the first time about her new life, sharing intimate details of her courtship with Peter and the profound grief that preceded their romance.

A Natural Meeting at the Hockey Pitch

In a candid interview with Hello! Magazine, the mother-of-one revealed that their relationship blossomed from a grounded, everyday connection. "I always told myself that I would much rather meet someone naturally, and that's exactly what happened," she told the magazine.

The couple first crossed paths in early 2022 under entirely normal circumstances: standing on the sidelines of a hockey pitch. Harriet's 14-year-old daughter, Georgina, was playing on the same team as Peter's two daughters, Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14.

"We met watching our children play hockey, chatting casually in a very ordinary way," she explained.

Grief Before Romance

The timing of their meeting carried a poignant weight for Harriet, who had just suffered a devastating personal loss. "My father had died just before I met Peter," she shared. "I often think maybe that's why Peter came along."

Despite the couple's current standing as a fixture in the royal fold, Harriet admitted there was no dramatic "thunderbolt" moment when they first met. Instead, she found a deep sense of security with the royal.

"I just felt incredibly at ease with him and experienced a lovely, peaceful, safe feeling when talking to him – like being with a really good friend," she revealed, adding that it was Peter who bravely took the first step in acting on their connection.

She affectionately described her new husband as "very romantic, loving, kind, loyal, amazing and my best friend."

A Magical Proposal and New Life

Their early dating life was spent away from the paparazzi, consisting of quiet dog walks, pub dinners, and cooking together at home. When it came time to propose in August 2025, Peter pulled out all the stops.

Asked about the most romantic thing he had ever done, Harriet didn't hesitate: "Asking me to marry him. He did really well in making it seem as though it was just a normal weekend away, but creating a magical moment for both of us."

Following their June wedding at All Saints Church in Kemble, where Harriet wore a floor-length Emilia Wickstead gown and a Pragnell tiara, the newly blended family has settled into domestic bliss. Having dedicated 24 years to the NHS specialising in infant mental health, Harriet is now embracing a new chapter of quiet contentment on Princess Anne's Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire, living close to Peter's sister, Zara Tindall, her husband Mike, and their three children.
