Gregg Wallace has announced he is set to become a grandfather for the first time. The former MasterChef presenter and judge, 61, shared the news with his social media followers.
Family announcement
Alongside an image of the ultrasound, Gregg wrote: "Grandad. This is my granddaughter. I’m going to be a grandfather." In a previous post, which Gregg later deleted, the name of the patient could be seen, confirming that it is his son Tom's girlfriend Georgia who is pregnant.
Gregg shares two children, Tom, 32, and Libby, 29, with his ex-wife Denise Lovell, and another son named Sid, seven, with his current wife, Anne-Marie Sterpini.
Past and present
Gregg and Denise split in 2004 after five years of marriage when she discovered he was having an affair with his colleague. The children remained with Denise after their breakup, however, Gregg fought for full custody as his ex-wife developed an alcohol addiction. Tragically, Denise died in 2017 after her addiction worsened.
Gregg's happy news comes just over one year after he was axed from MasterChef following an investigation into 83 historical allegations of workplace misconduct, 45 of which were upheld. He later attempted to sue the BBC and BBC Studios Distribution Limited for up to £10,000 in damages, claiming the broadcaster caused him "distress and harassment" by failing to comply with his requests for data. He withdrew the claim in February.
Financial reflections
In May, the presenter shared some insight into his financial struggles after losing his £400,000 per year MasterChef salary. Opening up on social media, he said: "I used to earn a load of money, right? And then overnight, it stopped. So let me tell you what I've learned from this experience."
He said that the moment they "broke even" it brought him a sense of calm and taught him a lot, adding that earning larger amounts of money to cover bigger bills wasn't worth it and "just stress". Gregg continued: "I don't think now happiness can be found in earnings more, but it can be found in not needing more. That is calmness. Happiness for me is companionship and simple pleasures anyway. Think about that."
Despite admitting that he is no longer scared about money, Gregg explained that the family don't need to dip into their savings because they have made an effort to work hard at lowering their budget. He added that he still earns an income from coaching people on healthy lifestyle and Cameo appearances. Gregg went on: "My advice to anybody here is don't upset yourself or bother yourself with trying to achieve things that you can't afford. Work hard on creating a lifestyle that you'll enjoy and that you can afford."
