Gladiators star Athena has publicly addressed the “speculation” surrounding her exit from the BBC show in a new video, days after her departure was revealed. The 30-year-old, real name Karenjeet Kaur Bains, was among those who did not join filming for the fourth season of the hit competition after production kicked off last month.
Athena's Response
Taking to TikTok, she set the record straight with a video showing her blistering pace. Alongside the clip, she wrote: “I've seen a lot of speculation recently that I'm still injured. The truth is I've been fully fit for several months now and, honestly, I'm the fittest and strongest I've ever been. The rest I'll comment on in due course, but I just wanted to set the record straight. In the meantime, here's my latest track sessions…Actions speak louder than words.”
Fan Support
Fans were quick to share their support in the comments, with many puzzled over why Athena wouldn’t be joining her fellow Gladiators on screen. “We love you Athena! Always queen of the arena regardless,” one commented, while another said: “A role model to all young women and athletes. Stay strong and proud.”
“If they get rid of my favourite female gladiator I will be absolutely livid! Keep strong our champion,” another penned, as a TikTok user added: “Looking strong. Hope to see you on screen again soon.”
Reports of Injury
According to reports, filming for the upcoming series began last weekend, with Olympic gold medallist Tabby Stoeker among the stars taking part, while she also gets Strictly rehearsals underway. The Sun reported that Athena and Bionic will no longer be taking part, after they were injured.
“They won’t film this year for the show but could be back for the tour, depending on how they recover from their injuries,” a source said, claiming that Athena suffered tears of her ACL, meniscus and MCL, as well as a bone fracture.
Series 4 Announcement
Announcing the fourth series, a press release confirmed: “Sheffield arena will once again roar to life for Series 4 and promises to push competitors harder than ever, as they take on the might of the Gladiators. Bradley and Barney Walsh will be back at the helm, guiding viewers through another series of high‑stakes challenges, dramatic showdowns and unforgettable Saturday‑night moments.”
“A new event revealed in due course, will join iconic classics Duel, Hang Tough and The Eliminator, while last year’s additions Everest, Destruction and Suspension Bridge return after proving a hit with fans. In a special one‑off episode, four fearless celebrities will enter the arena to see whether they can withstand the pressure and claim victory.”
