Mike Flanagan, the horror master behind The Haunting of Hill House, has been drafted by Games Workshop to write an upcoming Warhammer 40,000 project, according to the BBC. The news has sparked excitement among fans, as the series is expected to star Henry Cavill, who has been developing the Warhammer Cinematic Universe for Amazon Prime Video since 2022.
Flanagan to executive produce and showrun
Deadline reports that Flanagan is in talks to serve as an executive producer, showrunner, writer, and director for the 40k TV series. The project is said to be the one Cavill is attached to, likely playing a Space Marine or Inquisitor. No release date has been announced yet.
Flanagan's work, including Oculus and The Fall of the House of Usher, demonstrates his skill with uncanny and eerie storytelling—a perfect fit for the grimdark Warhammer 40,000 universe. Cavill, a self-proclaimed nerd who once compared a chandelier to a Blackstone Fortress, is trusted by fans to get the adaptation right.

In 2024, Cavill shared an update on Instagram: 'Together, we’ve been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret. Watch this space, though — more to come in time!'
