Three teenagers have been sentenced for assaulting a 14-year-old boy who was dragged off his bike in a Pontypridd park. The incident took place in Ynysangharad Park earlier this year.
The victim was pulled from his bike, punched, kicked and suffered repeated blows to the head while on the ground. The entire assault was captured on a mobile phone.
Court Appearance and Sentencing
The three youths appeared before Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, October 21, where they all pleaded guilty to one count of attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
A 15-year-old and a 14-year-old, both from Pontypridd, were each sentenced to a 12-month youth referral order, ordered to pay £100 in compensation and given a restraining order. A 14-year-old from Ystradowen received the same sentence.
Police Response
The youths cannot be named due to their age. Constable Matthew Wright said: “Violence like this has no place in our communities and we hope these sentences send a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated.”
