Disney+ has released the first poster for The Real Rooneys, a new 10-episode reality series featuring Wayne and Coleen Rooney, and confirmed the show's release date. The series will give cameras unprecedented access to the family's home life for a pivotal year.
Wayne Rooney, the former Manchester United striker, has been married to Coleen since 2008. The couple, who grew up on the same housing estate in Liverpool and began dating shortly after finishing school, share four sons: Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and eight-year-old Cass.
Poster Revealed
The first poster, released on Wednesday (August 26), shows Wayne and Coleen posing together under the show's title in red lettering. Coleen, wearing a red shirt with her arms crossed, is depicted with hands holding a diary and a makeup brush reaching out to her. Wayne, in a suit similar to those he wears on Match of the Day, is presented with a microphone and a toy car.
The series synopsis reads: “In the 10-episode series, Coleen and Wayne Rooney have invited cameras into their home for a pivotal year in their lives.”
What to Expect
“It's all change as Wayne steps away from football management, swapping the touchline for school runs, while Coleen embraces the biggest opportunities of her career, including designing her own Primark range,” the synopsis continues.
“With unprecedented access, we follow the family through the highs and lows of married life, raising four lively boys, and supporting eldest son Kai as he pursues his own footballing dream.”
The synopsis adds: “Along the way come surprising personal revelations, career-defining moments, lavish celebrations and unforgettable family holidays. From their Cheshire home to the beaches of Barbados and the snowy Alps, this is Britain's most famous and private family as never seen before: warm, funny and authentic.”
Release Date and Context
Episodes 1-8 will stream exclusively on Disney+ on Thursday, September 24. Two special episodes will become available the following Thursday, October 1.
The Rooneys join a list of famous families who have allowed cameras into their homes, with Netflix releasing Being Gordon Ramsay and the second season of At Home With The Furys this year. Disney+ has also found success with reality series such as The Kardashians and The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives.
Coleen previously worked with Disney+ on her documentary Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, which aired in 2023 and covered her legal battle with Rebekah Vardy. Wayne, meanwhile, has moved into modern media, appearing earlier in the week on the first episode of his new visual podcast with Mark Goldbridge, Stick to United, produced with The Overlap and set to run for 50 episodes.
Wayne said: “Having worked with Gary, Roy, Jamie, Wrighty and Jill on both Stick to Football and The Overlap’s Fan Debate show it was a natural next step to co-host a new show from The Overlap that is totally dedicated to everything Manchester United. I am delighted to co-host Stick to United with Mark Goldbridge, which will be available to watch on The United Stand in addition to Disney+, where The Real Rooneys featuring me, Coleen and our 4 boys will premiere soon.”
