The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has confirmed that Burgas will host the next Eurovision Song Contest. Bulgaria took home the crown at the 2026 Grand Final, which was hosted live from Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria, in May. Their act, 27-year-old Darina Nikolaeva Yotova, aka Dara, secured 516 total points from both jury and audience votes with the catchy pop song Bangaranga.
Hosting Details for the 71st Edition
For the 71st edition of the competition, the new Arena Burgas will take on hosting duties for the grand final on Saturday, May 15, 2027. There will also be two Semi-Finals on Tuesday, May 11, and Thursday, May 13, along with the usual build up.
Fans will be able to purchase tickets to the six preview shows taking place from Monday 10, as long as they sign up to the Eurofan free fan club.
Rule Change Behind the Announcement
The announcement comes after a rule change giving the EBU the power to hand out hosting duties to another broadcaster if the winning broadcaster does not accept or follow Eurovision’s rules.
Circumstances in which hosting duties may be passed over include if the winning country cannot guarantee the safety and security of the contest, attempts to unfairly influence the result or undermines Eurovision’s non-political character.
New Rules on War and Geopolitical Tensions
The new rules also address situations involving war and geopolitical tensions. If an armed conflict, sensitive geopolitical situation or another event has a material impact on the security, safety or stability of the immediate region of the winning broadcaster, it will not normally be eligible to host the following Eurovision.
This comes after Canada was confirmed to participate in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest after its public broadcaster became a full member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
