Queen Camilla once transformed one of Princess Diana's wedding gifts into a brooch estimated to be worth around £100,000. The piece originated as an emerald pendant necklace given to Diana in 1981 when she married King Charles.
The gift came from the Queen Mother, Charles's grandmother, and featured a glittering emerald that had belonged to the Crown since the 19th century. Diana debuted the piece on a 1982 trip to the Royal Opera House and seemed fond of it, according to jeweler Steven Stone.
Brooch Debut at Cheltenham
After Diana's death in 1997, the necklace was returned to the royal collection. In 2012, Camilla was seen wearing the emerald pendant as a brooch at Ladies Day at Cheltenham Festival, and again at an event in 2019.
While refashioning royal jewels is not uncommon, the move is believed to have not been well received by many royal fans. It is not known whether Camilla wore the jewels again, which were originally owned by Queen Alexandra.
Princess Catherine Wears the Brooch
Another royal has worn the brooch since: Princess Catherine first wore it in November 2022. The Princess of Wales has worn it several times since, including in September 2025 when President Donald Trump made a state visit to the UK.
Maxwell Stone of Steven Stone estimated the brooch's worth at around £100,000. Writing in the jeweler's Crisscut magazine, Stone said: "This remarkable brooch features approximately four carats of white diamonds, arranged in 18 individual stones, and is crowned by a breathtaking three-carat cabochon-cut green emerald pendant."
Camilla's Brooch Collection
Queen Camilla is a fan of brooches and appears to sport an impressive collection, including her personal pieces and those from the royal collection, such as brooches the late Queen Elizabeth II frequently wore.
