New Greater Manchester Mayor Bev Craig has written a letter to residents, vowing to be a 'Mayor for everyone' as she begins her first week in office.

Craig, who grew up on a council estate and moved to the region at 18 with nothing, expressed her disbelief at now representing the place she calls home. She said she was humbled by the trust placed in her by voters and made clear her commitment to serve all residents.
Priorities: Cheaper Living and Safer Streets
Craig pledged that every decision she makes will be tested against making life 'cheaper and easier' for people across all ten boroughs. Her first day in office saw the extension of the Our Pass scheme, providing free bus travel for 11-16-year-olds, saving families up to £500 per child annually.
She also emphasized the importance of safety, announcing plans to join the Chief Constable in Piccadilly Gardens to discuss tougher action on anti-social behaviour in high-profile hotspots.
Building on Success
Craig highlighted Greater Manchester's achievements, including leading the devolution revolution, delivering the fastest economic growth in the UK, and bringing public transport under public control. She noted that Prime Minister Andy Burnham's national vision was forged in the region.
She concluded by promising to give her all every day to improve life for all residents, regardless of how they voted.
