Adam Frost Admits Wife's Rare Praise Left Him 'Uncomfortable' After Podcast Launch
Adam Frost on Wife's Rare Praise After Podcast Launch

Gardeners' World presenter Adam Frost has opened up about the unexpected reaction from his wife, Sulina, following the launch of his new podcast, admitting her rare praise left him feeling 'uncomfortable'. The 56-year-old horticulturist has teamed up with author and broadcaster Caitlin Moran for the podcast 'Outsiding', which invites guests to her north London garden to celebrate nature, wildlife, and gardening.

Wife's Rare Compliment

Speaking to Dermot O'Leary on BBC Radio 2, Frost revealed that although he has not watched the debut episode featuring comedian Bob Mortimer, his daughter has viewed it three times, and his wife also watched it. Moran noted that Sulina praised Frost, which she described as 'rare apparently'. Frost agreed, saying, 'Very rare. Last night we got in bed and she said, "I'm proud of you."'

When O'Leary suggested that was a lovely sentiment, Frost laughed and explained that in their 25 to 26 years together, such compliments have been few and far between. 'That's probably the third time,' he said. 'It was like, "Woah, I feel slightly uncomfortable now", what have I done? But yeah, no [it's] magical.'

New Podcast 'Outsiding'

Frost and Moran launched 'Outsiding' to explore the simple joys of the outdoors. In a statement, Frost expressed his excitement: 'I can't wait to spend time with Caitlin every week. My hope for this podcast is that it makes people smile - after that everything is a bonus. I'm really not sure where our conversations will go, which is why I'm looking forward to it - we might even learn something along the way!'

The debut episode featured Bob Mortimer reflecting on his relationship with the outdoors. Frost also shared his enthusiasm for meeting 'so many people' and discussing all things nature-related.

Gardening as Therapy

For Frost, gardening extends beyond his career. He has previously credited it with helping him navigate health challenges and learning difficulties, including dyslexia. After training under the late Geoff Hamilton, Frost built a successful career in horticulture and television. Speaking on the 'My Time Capsule' podcast, he recalled: 'Like any 16-year-old, who is a bit lost and a bit angry, those influences are so important. Being able to use your hands, and feel like you're playing a part in something.'

Frost also lives with fibromyalgia, a chronic condition causing widespread pain and fatigue, diagnosed around 20 years ago. He has spoken openly about managing symptoms and experiencing depression, describing gardening as a therapeutic outlet. 'I think if we all gardened, the world would be a better place,' he said. '[It's good for your] mental health, physical health, and what's great now is, it's actually being prescribed by the NHS and there's gardens starting to be created in different places, that are either being used by the NHS or they're being run by charities.'

Gardeners' World continues tonight at 9pm on BBC Two.
