Rangers ramp up Cammy Devlin pursuit after Hearts exit

Rangers have stepped up their pursuit of Cammy Devlin after the midfielder's exit from Hearts. Ibrox sources have confirmed to Record Sport that the 28-year-old is high on manager Derek McInnes' wish list as he seeks to reunite with the Australian international in Govan.

Devlin leaves Hearts after contract expires

Devlin's move became possible after Tynecastle chiefs confirmed he opted to walk away following the expiry of his contract. The Australian joined Hearts in 2021 from Newcastle Jets and became a fans' favourite, making 176 appearances and scoring eight goals. He was a key member of the Hearts side that McInnes almost led to title glory last year.

New Hearts boss Wouter Vrancken had been desperate to retain Devlin's services, but the club admitted earlier today that he would not be returning. In a statement, Hearts said: "Heart of Midlothian can confirm that Cammy Devlin will not be returning to the club. Cammy was given a deadline by the club to commit to taking up the offer of a new deal, which he has failed to meet, and therefore leaves under freedom of contract."

Devlin's farewell to Hearts fans

Devlin posted a tribute to Hearts supporters on social media, writing: "Saying goodbye is never easy, especially to a club that has meant so much to me. After five unforgettable years, the time has come for me to say goodbye to Heart of Midlothian Football Club. This club has been so much more than just the place where I played football. It became my home, and I'm grateful for every moment."

He added: "Playing for Hearts has been everything I dreamed of and more. European nights, derby wins, and the incredible season we've just had are memories I'll cherish forever. Hearts also gave me the opportunity to live out my dream of playing overseas and representing my country at two World Cups."

McInnes rebuilding Rangers squad

If confirmed, Devlin's move along the M8 would present another painful blow to Hearts fans, who have already seen McInnes and skipper Lawrence Shankland quit the capital club to join Rangers. The new Gers gaffer hopes to use Devlin's leadership abilities and on-field tenacity as he rebuilds the Light Blues lineup.
