Strictly Come Dancing star Will Best has become a father for the first time after welcoming a baby boy named Sonny with his fiancée, Tobi Rose. The news was shared during Friday's episode of Good Morning Britain, where hosts Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh were quick to offer their congratulations.
GMB panel discusses the announcement
The ITV stars were discussing the latest showbiz headlines with Rishi Davda when he told the duo about the new arrival. He explained that there was "new little dancing feet" in the Strictly world, in a nod to Will's current time on the BBC show with Dianne Buswell.
Rishi said: "The couple has named their little bundle of joy Sonny. Will shared some adorable snaps from the hospital, saying they're feeling 'very lucky' and, of course, very tired. With Strictly's Icons Week coming up tomorrow night, Will's got a very little special supporter cheering him on from home."
Social media reveal
The show then aired a clip from Will's social media showing him cradling his newborn in the hospital. He told his followers he had got a "cool new thing today" and gave a glimpse of his newborn son.
When the clip concluded, Ranvir described it as "so lovely" as Rishi pointed out how tiny the baby was. Ranvir added: "You know what's funny, though? Will Best will go, 'Gosh, you know what love, I'm so tired'. She'll be like, 'Err, I've just given birth to a baby?'. You know what I mean?"
As Kate suggested that Will could potentially dodge the night feeds, Ranvir countered that he wouldn't want to, before adding: "Congratulations, Will and Tobi"
Will's personal announcement
On October 15, Will took to Instagram to personally share the news, posting a series of endearing photos introducing Sonny to his followers.
He captioned the post: "Well, who do we have here then?! Welcome to the world, Sonny Best, you little smasher. @tobiroseofficial, you're a miracle, and I love you so much. A couple of tired new parents (see last slide), but oh my goodness, aren't we lucky xxx"
It wasn't long before comments started pouring in on the announcement, with one individual saying, "Oh, Will! He's perfect! Huge huge congrats to you and Tobi!" Another penned: "Huge congrats to you both!! Welcome to the world, Sonny!"
As his Strictly partner Dianne wrote: "Tay, I’m so happy for you, and Tobie and Bowie are so excited to meet little Sonny."
At present, Will is among the 13 remaining celebrities participating in Strictly Come Dancing. He's been paired with professional dancer Dianne Buswell, and the duo are set to perform an Elton John-themed routine on Saturday night for Icons Week.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am. Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday, October 17, on BBC One from 6:15pm.
