Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo will face late fitness tests ahead of Manchester United's Premier League trip to Leeds after missing the midweek defeat to Atletico Madrid.
Shaw and Mainoo both picked up knocks against Tottenham a week ago that ruled them out of the Champions League trip to the Spanish capital, and they aren't certain to return at Elland Road.
Heaven and midfield changes
In Shaw's absence, 19-year-old Ayden Heaven became the fourth player to start at left-back in nine games this season, while new signings Andrey Santos, Carlos Baleba and Youri Tielemans started together in midfield for the first time.
While Shaw and Mainoo could put themselves in contention for the trip to an in-form Leeds side, striker Benjamin Sesko will miss out once again as United continue to work out a plan to deal with his injury.
Sesko hasn't featured since the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton after picking up a recurrence of the shin injury that ruled him out for nearly four months in the summer.
Carrick's update
"We'll see on Luke and Kobbie," said Carrick. "Benjamin's kind of still undergoing a couple of checks, before we update on timelines or everything, we're just trying to be clear with what that looks like. He's still a little bit further away, but when we know a little bit more, we'll let you know."
Carrick faces a daunting trip to Leeds on the back of five games without a win. It's just over 10 months since United drew 1-1 at Elland Road in what turned out to be Ruben Amorim's last game in charge, but the man in the hot seat at the moment is excited by the challenge ahead.
"I think Daniel's done a fantastic job," he said. "From the start of last season and the run that they've gone on, the consistency, the way they play, I think they've turned into a really, really good Premier League team, and credit to Daniel and his staff and the players for that."
"It's a great rivalry, there's big history between the football clubs, between the areas. I think that's what makes these types of games special."
"I think you've got to embrace the history, you've got to embrace what it means, and you've got to embrace the past of certain games are a little bit different, and that's what makes them special, and that's what gets you attached to them, and this is certainly one of them. So it'll be a fantastic game, I'm sure, a fantastic atmosphere on Sunday, and we'll be ready for it."
