Well-known television personality Vanessa Feltz has publicly disclosed that she has turned down numerous invitations from the BBC to appear on Celebrity MasterChef, citing a profound lack of confidence in her cooking abilities.
Why Vanessa Said No to the Kitchen
Despite her extensive history on reality television, including a stint on Celebs Go Dating after her split from Ben Ofoedu, Feltz has firmly drawn the line at culinary competitions. In a candid interview with the Daily Star, the This Morning presenter revealed she feared her performance would be 'dreadful'.
'I turned down Celebrity Shark Tank, I’ve turned down MasterChef about 50 times,' Feltz stated. 'I’m not a good enough cook; I’m terrible. My cooking would be so appalling, I just couldn’t face it.' She humorously illustrated her lack of kitchen prowess by sharing that her children associate the sound of the microwave with her meals.
A Look Back at a Memorable TV Past
Vanessa Feltz is no stranger to creating memorable television moments. Her reality TV journey includes appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2013. However, years before that, she became an icon for her dramatic on-screen meltdown in the 2001 Comic Relief special of Big Brother.
Reflecting on that time, she told the Express that she was the first housemate globally to ignore the commands of Big Brother. This occurred a year after her marriage ended. In her memoir, Vanessa Bares All: Frank, Funny and Fearless, she described spiralling into an 'emotional tailspin', a spectacle heightened by her leopard-print dressing gown and indoor sunglasses.
She famously scribbled a list of complex words like 'IMMOLATED, ISOLATED, INCARCERATED, and DISCOMBOBULATED' on a blackboard table, cementing her place in reality TV history.
Current Career Success and a Packed Schedule
Now 63, Vanessa Feltz is enjoying significant professional success. Her self-titled talk show on Channel 5, which airs on weekdays at 12.30pm, has been recommissioned for another year following its popularity.
The show has already earned her accolades, including Best Talk Show at the National Reality TV Show Awards and a nomination for a TV Choice Award. While she enjoys hosting a variety of interesting guests, her demanding work schedule, which includes her LBC radio show, leaves little room for anything else.
'I’ve been doing seven shows a week for the last 200-and-something days,' she explained. 'Been quite busy, I am exhausted. It’s good fun, very good fun.' This intense workload means that finding love is currently not on the cards for the busy presenter.
