A UFO has apparently crash landed in the window of an estate agency in north London, bringing two small green aliens with it. The unidentified flying object appeared at Location Location Estate Agents on Stoke Newington Church Street over the weekend.
Complete with a large flying saucer, an eerie after-dark glow and two small green aliens, the Halloween display has quickly attracted attention from passers-by. The extraterrestrial visitors – named Gina and Clive – appear in no hurry to return home. And while the authorities have yet to investigate, the agents seem remarkably relaxed about having an alien spacecraft occupying some prime window space.
A close encounter with DIY
The display is the work of Location Location managing director Vicky Bibiris and her brother Panni Bibiris. The pair spent several weeks building the installation, including a UFO constructed from EVA foam.
But the project proved considerably more hazardous than the average window display. Panni accidentally chopped off a finger while building the UFO and required surgery to have it reattached. He returned from hospital and resumed work on the display.
Aliens join dragons and werewolves
Location Location has occupied its Church Street premises for 20 years and has created Halloween displays for more than a decade. Previous windows have featured giant dragons and werewolves, although this marks the agency’s first close encounter with extra-terrestrial life.
The displays have become something of a neighbourhood tradition, with locals expecting the window to transform each October. This year’s aliens even had some help from a young local fan. George, a pupil at a nearby school who has followed the displays for several years, helped the team build Gina and Clive – and was given the honour of naming them. In return, the agency has promised to turn one of George’s ideas into next year’s display.
‘We do this for our community’
Panni Bibiris said: “We do this for our community. It’s a lot of hard work, but seeing people stop, smile and take photos, and hearing what our neighbours have to say about it, makes every minute worthwhile.
“Having George help us this year was a real highlight. These windows are our way of giving something back to the people who’ve supported us for 20 years, and it’s one of the most rewarding things we get to do as a team.”
The window will also form part of Trick or Eat on Halloween. The initiative sees businesses across north and east London welcome trick-or-treaters, with families donating food in return. The donations go to Hackney Foodbank.
