Traitors viewers stunned by Richard E. Grant's slip-up

Celebrity Traitors viewers were left speechless just minutes into Friday's (October 2) episode, after Richard E. Grant accidentally exposed his true role to the Faithfuls in a comical mishap.

The popular murder mystery show has made its comeback with a fresh series, featuring 21 celebrity contestants making their way to the Scottish Highlands. Claudia Winkleman's ultimate game of trust and betrayal got underway this week when she selected Richard E. Grant and Maya Jama as the Traitors.

Traitors recruit James Acaster

Another surprise awaited, as Richard and Maya were tasked with selecting an additional recruit to accompany them in the turret. James Acaster and Amol Rajan were subsequently called to the chapel, before the Traitors decided who would become their ally in the turret and who would meet their demise.

During the most recent episode, it emerged that Richard and Maya had opted to recruit James as their deadly accomplice, while Amol became the first celebrity to depart the castle. Prior to the revelation, the stars assembled in the breakfast room.

As they anticipated discovering who else would walk through the door, Rob Beckett turned to Richard and remarked: "Both of us wanted to be Traitors." Richard responded: "I know."

Rob then enquired: "How did you feel when you found out? Because I found there was a sense of relief, that I can just chill. But how did you feel? Because you really wanted to be."

Richard said: "I know! So, I know that tonight, the slates will be 15 people [writing my name]," before Rob observed: "Oh, well, I think, yeah, I think there probably will be an expectation for you to sort of explain your workings. I suppose it was a bold strategy from a Faithful!"

Viewers react to deflection

Richard then quickly shifted the conversation, delivering a hilarious swipe at Rob by asking: "Do you have more teeth than a normal person?" The enquiry sent Rob into hysterics, while viewers were equally stunned.

"Getting the suspiciousness off him by asking Rob Beckett if he has more teeth than a normal person. Richard is so funny," one person posted on X. Another commented: "Incredible." A third declared: "I am HOWLING." Someone else remarked: "Richard needs to win." A fifth viewer shared the view, stating: "Richard E. Grant is on course to become the greatest Traitor ever. Poor Rob Beckett."

Another fan wondered whether Richard had a cunning strategy in mind. They posted: "No idea if that was a distraction technique or a genuine question from Richard."

Elsewhere in today's episode, the celebrities were buried alive during the latest challenge. It proved too overwhelming for Jerry Hall however, who abandoned the coffin before the task had even started - resulting in her being immediately nominated for murder, along with her teammate Hannah Fry.

Celebrity Traitors is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
