Amazon Prime's new drama Kill Jackie, starring Swansea-born actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, was filmed across South Wales, London and Bilbao in Spain. Episode five of the series showcases the beauty of The Mumbles and some of the grittier spots in Swansea.
The series follows former international cocaine dealer Jackie Price, who has spent the past two decades living a lavish yet low-profile life before everything takes a deadly twist when she learns that The Seven Demons, a group of the world's most feared assassins, have been contracted to kill her.
Welsh character and accent
In the book The Price You Pay by Nick Harkaway, on which the series is based, Jackie isn't actually meant to be Welsh. However, Catherine was the one who suggested that her character had her own native accent.
The actress discussed the importance of her character being Welsh, saying: "In the book, the story is set in America, but that was changed for the series, I said to Peter Lawson [executive producer] and our writers, 'I want to play her Welsh'.
"There are many reasons why that was a big deal for me. Firstly, I've never, in the whole of my career, played a Welsh woman with a Welsh accent. I've never actually filmed anything in Wales. I've been all over the world and never actually filmed anything in my country!"
Filming locations in Swansea
Episode five of Kill Jackie kicks off with stunning views of the Mumbles, where Catherine grew up. The camera pans across Swansea Bay, the seafront, Mumbles pier and its recent addition - the big wheel.
The episode later showcases North Road Service Station, Swansea, where we see Jackie crawling out of a lorry. She then walks down Pant Street in Port Tennant to head back to her childhood home, although it's not been confirmed where in Swansea the house was actually located.
The majority of the episode is filmed in this house, but there are some scenes filmed at Monkstone Cruising & Sailing Club in Swansea. The production also branched out to Porthcawl's iconic Coney Beach for some of the scenes.
This marks the first time ever that Catherine has filmed in Wales, let alone her hometown. She said: "The most poignant moment for me was walking down the streets of Swansea, not just as Jackie, but as me. Going home to a place that I love, doing what I love to do. That was very, very special."
