Celebrity Traitors contestants are paid for taking part in the BBC show, with reports from last year indicating that the 2025 lineup each received £40,000.
The second series of the celebrity version of the hit reality show has returned, with Claudia Winkleman overseeing the competition. Following Alan Carr's win last year, a fresh lineup of famous faces is being tested on their ability to deceive and identify trustworthy allies.
Richard E Grant and Maya Jama selected as Traitors
This time, actor Richard E Grant and Love Island's Maya Jama were chosen as Traitors, with Grant inadvertently revealing his role in the opening episode. Claudia then allowed the pair to recruit another member to their group, and they selected comedian James Acaster.
Do the Celebrity Traitors cast get paid?
Yes, participants are compensated for appearing on the game show. Reports from last year suggested that the 2025 contestants, including Stephen Fry, Paloma Faith and Celia Imrie, each received £40,000, meaning the BBC paid out a total of £760,000.
On The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, host Marina Hyde remarked: "Look at the calibre of the people they got. They were able to pay everybody a blanket 40k fee, right? They're paying them a 40k fee."
However, former rugby player Joe Marler disclosed that the actual amount varied depending on the celebrity, with him receiving £30,000 to appear on the show last year.
Winnings donated to charity
The BBC has refused to disclose what celebrities are paid for their participation. Beyond the appearance fee, the famous faces are competing to win up to £100,000, based on their performance across each task. These winnings will not go to them personally but will be donated to their chosen charity.
On Friday, October 2, the celebrities met at the round table for the first time to eliminate someone, with Richard under scrutiny. Viewers will have to wait until next Thursday, October 8, to discover whether he will be the first Traitor to be eliminated.
Celebrity Traitors continues Thursday and Friday at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
