Thursday's instalment of BBC One's hit reality show The Traitors delivered what fans are calling the series' most frightening challenge to date. The remaining contestants were subjected to a night of pure horror in a secluded woodland cabin, all in a bid to boost the prize fund by £6,000.
A Night of Terror in the Woods
The mission required the faithful and traitors to solve cryptic clues inside a notoriously haunted cabin. The tension quickly escalated into full-blown terror as the location seemed to come alive with malevolent spirits. The players' screams echoed as chainsaws violently smashed through the windows and blood appeared to drip down the walls, creating a cinematic horror scene.
For those brave enough to venture outside the cabin to search for a protective shield, the dread only intensified. Upon correctly guessing names to win money, contestants were met with a ghastly surprise: a skeletal hand emerged from a grave, clutching the cash. This macabre moment left several participants visibly shaking and traumatised by the experience.
Viewers Hail "Absolutely Mental" Mission
While the contestants were left quaking in their boots, viewers watching at home were thoroughly impressed by the production's audacity. Taking to social media platform X, audiences flooded the site with praise for the episode's inventive scare tactics.
One viewer exclaimed: 'This is absolutely mental, who comes up with this stuff?' Another admitted, 'I usually go and make a snacky snack during the mission but I’m actually enjoying this one.' The consensus was clear, with many declaring the creepy cabin task the 'best game yet' and a highlight of the series, proving the production team had truly outdone themselves.
Deadly Gambit Pays Off for The Traitors
Earlier in the same dramatic episode, the treacherous players executed a risky murder that paid off. Traitors Rachel and Stephen were faced with a difficult choice in the turret, deliberating whether to murder Adam, James, or Jessie—hoping their target had not secured a shield in the earlier challenge.
Stephen openly conceded they only had a '33% chance' of succeeding without hitting a shielded player, which would expose them. Ultimately, they chose Adam, and their gamble proved correct. Upon receiving his fateful black envelope, a dismayed Adam—a self-professed ghost-hunter—lamented that he was now set to 'become one of the spirits' himself.
His murder also cast suspicion on fellow faithful James, who had previously lied about possessing a shield, sparking backlash from other players and viewers alike.
The Traitors continues with another episode on Friday at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
