Strictly's Will Best sends special message to newborn son Sonny

Strictly Come Dancing star Will Best took a moment during Saturday night's live show to send a special message to his newborn son Sonny. The Big Brother co-host was almost unrecognisable as he stepped into the ballroom dressed as Elton John for Icons Week.

Icons Week transformations

The celebrities underwent major transformations ahead of the October 17 live show, where they performed routines inspired by some of the biggest artists in history. Judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke joined in on the fun, with Anton and Craig transforming into Oasis stars Liam and Noel Gallagher. Shirley donned her best Lady Gaga costume and Motsi dressed up as Beyonce.

Will and partner Dianne Buswell danced the Jive to Crocodile Rock by Elton John. The entire live studio erupted into cheers as the couple joined host Johannes Radebe upstairs, but Will cut through the noise to share a sweet message for his newborn son.

A message for Sonny

The 41-year-old welcomed his first child with fiancée Tobi Rose earlier this week. Interrupting host Johannes, Will said: "Can I say hello to somebody very special watching this? Sonny, it's your dad, and I hope you're enjoying the show. He can only see about three inches in front of his face but I think he was enjoying it."

The Strictly family also had their own sweet gesture for Sonny as they gifted first-time-dad Will a blue babygrow with the words 'Tiny Dancer' written on the front, referencing Elton John's hit song.

Emotional moments

Will reflected on his new role as a dad earlier in the show during a heart-to-heart chat with Dianne. A tearful Will said: "You're inspirational. You are doing all of this and you've got a baby and you are clearly the most amazing mum. So I want to try and learn from you." Dianne also broke down in tears, as she replied: "You're going to be the most amazing dad and all I can say is we can do it together!"

Viewers at home were moved by the sweet scene, as one X user posted: "So happy for Will what an incredible dance #Strictly," while a second shared: "Why are will and Diane making me cry. #Strictly." Another fan was just as emotional as they wrote: "will and dianne crying wait now i'm crying too whole house in waterworks #strictly." And someone else praised the TV presenter's routine, commenting: "will definitely had his best dance this jive was absolutely brilliant to watch #strictly."

Will announced the birth of Sonny on Thursday (October 15), sharing sweet snaps on Instagram. In the caption, he wrote: "Well who do we have here then?! Welcome to the world Sonny Best, you little smasher. @tobiroseofficial you're a miracle and I love you so much. A couple of tired new parents (see last slide) but oh my goodness aren't we lucky xxx." The latest episode of Strictly Come Dancing is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
