BBC audiences have highlighted a 'major flaw' in the latest series of The Celebrity Traitors, and they think they've got the solution. A new batch of celebrities joined the gameshow earlier this month, aiming to secure the whopping £100,000 cash prize for their chosen charity.
Traitors Exposed Early
Presenter Claudia Winkleman selected Maya Jama and Richard E. Grant as her initial two Traitors at the beginning of the series, and the pair subsequently invited James Acaster to join their group. However, Richard's stint on the show was abruptly ended when he was ousted during the very first roundtable, after inadvertently revealing to a room full of Faithfuls that he was indeed a Traitor.
The gameshow's villains then enlisted Professor Hannah Fry, but she too was exposed during Thursday's (October 15) roundtable vote. Before long, the Traitors had persuaded Faithful King Kenny to join them. With two Traitors now removed from the show, viewers at home have identified a "flaw" in the game.
Fans Call for Incentives
Fans argue that the game doesn't provide any real advantage to unmasking Traitors early on and they've proposed that Faithfuls should receive a reward for each Traitor they banish to raise the stakes, reports Wales Online.
Taking to Reddit, one fan expressed: "I think the main most frustratingly obvious issue is that banishing a traitor means absolutely nothing.... 'Well done faithfuls! You got one!' for then a new one being recruited before they even hit their bed."
The viewer continued: "Back to square one.. it's become such a weak point that it is so obvious both to players and to the viewers. I'm sure there are ways to fix this.. even if it was a monetary reward added to the prize.. why not add an extra 5K to the pot each time they catch one?!".
Viewers Propose Fixes
The social media post has garnered nearly 600 likes and approximately 200 comments, with some viewers concurring that expelling Traitors doesn't offer any tangible advantage to the Faithfuls.
Audiences on TikTok and X have echoed the same sentiment, with one stating: "They need to incentivise removing a traitor.. eg adding more money to the pot, otherwise it's broken."
While others proposed setting a limit on how often the Traitors can enlist a new member. A BBC viewer commented: "One flaw that's really becoming apparent in this series of #CelebrityTraitors is that there really is no incentive to catch them early."
"A format experiment - what about the traitors get one recruitment over the game rather than every time they lose one?." The Celebrity Traitors is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
